The easiest access point to the beaches on "Boca de Naranja" from Jaltemba Bay is through the charming Mexican beach town of La Colonia, just north of La Penita; a ten minute drive from Los Ayala, or about thirty minutes by collectivo.

The south end of the beach, El Playon, is an easy ten minute walk from the final collectivo stop in La Colonia. When you get off the collectivo walk a few blocks towards the beach until you reach the road which runs parallel to the estuary; turn right a walk a few more until you reach the path that crosses the estuary. This path will lead you directly to the beach.  There is a turtle sanctuary located just a little ways down the beach from this access point, an easy fifteen minute walk. Turtles nest here from late summer until December.

The far south end is marked by a rocky outcropping and a trailer park that delineates the border with La Penita. It is possible to access this beach from the far north end of La Penita beach by climbing over the rocky outcropping. This end of the beach is a good spot for a quick dip as it is relatively sheltered.

The far north end of the beach is called "El Capomo" and well worth a visit. It takes about three hours to walk the beach (~ 8 km long) from the south end to the far north end at a good pace. If you are not up to the long walk you may access this end of the beach by driving to the small town called Lima de Abajo which is about a forty minute drive in a northerly direction on highway 200 from Los Ayala. From here it is a few minutes drive to the beach entrance.

Lima de Abjao is just a few minutes south of of the town of Las Varas, so it is possible to reach the beach by taking the collectivo to Las Varas and then hiring a taxi driver to take you to the beach, but make sure to arrange for the taxi driver to pick you up for the return trip.

Swimming is good at this end of the beach on calm days when the surf is small, and at various spots along the entire length of the beach where the slope is more gradual. Use caution when swimming here, especially when the surf is large.  Also note that it is not uncommon to spot crocodiles in this area, so be especially cautious when accompanied by children and dogs.

There are no restaurants or facilities on this beach so bring along a lunch, and bottled water. Wear a hat an plenty of sunscreen as their are not too many shaded areas on the beach.
