Sayulita San Pancho
El Monteon & Punta Raza
     The small town of El Monteon is just ten minutes south of Los Ayala; and is the access point to the spectacular beach of Punta Raza. To get there drive south along highway 200 and turn right at the El Monteon exit.  To reach Punta Raza beach drive down the Main Avenida until you reach the sign pointing to Punta Raza. Turn right here, and follow this road all the way to the beach. A high clearance, four wheel drive vehicle is recommended. The road is not accessible during the rainy season. You may also reach Punta Raza beach via the trail leading to Playa del Beso from Los Ayala beach. The hike is moderate in intensity; involves hiking up and downhill, and takes approximately one and a half hours.

     El Monteon also features a nine-hole golf course; offering golfers very affordable green fees.

Lo de Marcos

      A beautiful and family friendly, beach town located just twenty minutes south of Los Ayala.  Driving south along highway 200 you will drive past the town of El Monteon, before reaching the town of Lo De Marcos. Turn right at the sign for Lo de Marcos and drive straight along the main avenue until you reach the beach. The beach is wide, soft and and sandy; resembling some of Hawaii's most beautiful beaches. Generally a great swimming beach but use caution; especially at the north end of the beach, as sometimes the currents and surf can be strong.


Playa San Francisco (Also known as San Pancho)
     A gorgeous, upscale artsy town located about thirty minutes south of Los Ayala. Driving along highway 200 turn right off the highway at the sign for Playa San Francisco. The beach is wildly spectacular but best for walking, and not for recommended for swimming. Surfing only for the very experienced. Wade with extreme caution as the currents and undertow are very strong, and the waves are extremely powerful. A great restaurant in town to try is Ola Rica, specializing in Mexican and North American dining. Some good shopping is available on the Main Avenida.


Sayulita
     A hip and trendy bohemian surfing town located about a 30 minutes south of Los Ayala. Driving south, Sayulita is the next beach town after Playa San Francisco. Turn right off the highway at the entrance to Sayulita, and follow the road leading to the beach. Sayulita is a very pretty beach town with a strong Mexican flavour; and a great place for people watching and shopping. Sayulita offers has some wonderful restaurants including Don Pedro’s on the Beach which is one of the best restaurants on the Nayarit coast;  and a must for any special occasion.  Sayulita is also a great place to learn to surf.

Punta Raza
    The most "touristy" location along the Riviera Nayarit, Nuevo Vallarta is home to some of the country’s finest golf courses and resorts. A popular timeshare destination for international travelers, Nuevo Vallarta moves at a much quicker pace than some of the other towns mentioned on this page which makes it an ideal day trip destination.

    With shopping, restaurants, and a wide variety of water sports and activities to choose from, there are plenty of things to choose from for a day of fun. Nuevo Vallarta is not without natural beauty either as it sits along the sands of the iconic Banderas Bay. Less than 30 minutes south of Sayulita, you can spend a day in the bustling town of Nuevo Vallarta and be back to unwind for the night in the more tranquil northern towns of the Riviera Nayarit.
