This word, which means "retirement," tells a great deal about the Mexican attitude toward work. It connotes that retirement is an occasion for joy and celebration. El retiro is also used.

     Rincon de Guayabitos translates to "Corner of Little Guavas" and because of its tranquil waters the beach is frequently referred to as the “Largest swimming pool in the world”. The beach is just five minutes north of Los Ayala and it is truly a delightful and picturesque beach. The three kilometers long beach is wide, soft and sandy and perfect for walking and people watching.  It offers vacationers, safe shallow swimming waters and three kilometers of soft, velvety sand.

     The south end of the beach offers old world charm and is frequented by fisherman with colourful boats decked out with pelicans. There are several palapa restaurants on this end of the beach. Check out Pina Loca for delicious, authentic Mexican Fare. The livelier restaurants have names like Latitude 21, Juan's Place and Tequila Willies. Latitude 21 is popular with tourists and residents for its colourful, beach side setting, friendly service and great Texas fare which includes BBQ ribs, Texas style burgers, and gigantic shrimp cocktails. They also offer an extensive entertainment line up throughout the tourist season and are known as a hot spot for action in Jaltemba Bay.

     The central portion of Guayabitos beach is perfect for swimming. The beach is broad, the water is shallow and the waves are gentle. Restaurant Charly famed for its' great Mexican fare and famous for its' shrimp burgers and nightly entertainment is located mid-way on the beach . Mateja's Bar & Grill is located a little further north; just before the residential zone. Mateja's is a popular beach side hangout; with good reason, as they offers great home-style dining including good, old fashioned chicken soup and it is a hot spot for action including many lively beach parties! For fine dining and a romantic evening and the beach side setting, San Carlos is a great choice.

    The north end of the beach is the residential zone, always quiet, and very popular with body boarders of all ages. During the winter, on windy days you may even catch some of the local kids surfing.

    Guayabitos is the best beach in Jaltemba Bay for long walks, body boarding and people watching!

Getting there from Los Ayala...

     From Los Ayala walk along Bahia de Banderas, up the hill leading to Guayabitos. Turn left at the side road just past Vista Guayabitos and you will find the beach access through the Pina Loca restaurant.

   Catch the collectivo from Los Ayala on Bahia de Banderas and get off in Guayabitios anywhere along the main street called "Avenida del Sol" from where you will find numerous beach access points leading to the beach. If you have a car, it is an easy five minute drive from Los Ayala; drive north along the Bahia de Banderas and as you leave Los Ayala take the first exit which will lead you to the main street in Guayabitos - Avenida del Sol.
