Los Ayala
Local Folks - Linda & Orlando
It all began about fifty years ago when Orlando's, Aunt Olive and Uncle Charles discovered the fishing village of Rincon de Guayabitos. They were pioneers of travel, making their trek when the roads from the US border to this area was still mostly gravel. They had toured fifty- two countries in total and claimed that "Guayabitos" was the best place they had found to spend the cold winters away from Canada.
They later introduced this area to my parents, who camped at the El Dorado Trailer Park for eighteen consecutive years. Today in the its' place is a condominium complex which is operated by the same owners, Gaucho and Irma; who amazingly are now in their eighties.
In 1989 I followed my parents down, driving a truck and holiday trailer and discovered Rincon de Guayabitos for myself. At that time there were only three bungalow operations, one restaurant, no grocery stores, and absolutely no public transportation.
It was necessary to walk to La Penita, for everything you needed. In Los Ayala there were only palapa huts on the beach; and a gorgeous perfect, swimming beach. How the area has grown in just twenty years!
I am convinced that the many Canadians that have since discovered this "Winter Get-Away" is a result of the word of mouth advertising that originally stemmed from my Aunt and Uncle "Olivia" and "Carlos" from Calgary , Alberta.
It was not until January of 1996 that I returned to Guayabitos with my wife Linda. We stayed in Guayabitos and I took her to Los Ayala beach for the day, and she fell in love with this little paradise.
We loved its' charm and that it was less touristy. We wintered in Guayabitos for five years, but as it became busier we found ourselves walking over the hill to Los Ayala more frequently; until we found accommodation that we loved in Los Ayala. We have wintered in this area every year since, enjoying the sun and sea and making many new friends. Although we now have public transport, my wife Linda, still walks on a regular basis from Los Ayala, all the way to La Penita just for fun!
