What's New in Town
"Jefe"
Translates to "Boss"; whose relationship with his or her subordinates is paternalistic, generally extending beyond financial and personal considerations. "Jefe" is also slang for "The Old Man" or "The Old Lady" when used in reference to ones spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend.
The PET (Programa de Empleo Temporal - Temporary Employment Program) has been awarded to Los Ayala for the fourth time, thanks to the hard work of our own "Juez" - Romy Mora.
This program sponsored by SEMARNAT, has strict rules and regulations including but not limited to; submitting before and after photos; submitting reports, accounting for expenses; and adhering to the programs guidelines which including prompt payment of employees on a weekly basis. To qualify for the program; towns are required to submit a list of needs to Semarnat. Los Ayalas' list of needs included cleaning the estuary and streets and funds for supplies which included rakes, bags, machetes, wheel barrows and shovels.
Thanks to Romy's due diligence Los Ayala, received 50,000 pesos to subsidize Los Ayala's clean up program, for the fourth time! As a result Los Ayala, has employed 17 people who will be working again this summer cleaning the estuary and keeping the streets and beach of Los Ayala clean.
Los Ayala Life recognizes the contribution of Romy Mora, SEMARNAT, and the dedicated workers, who together are making Los Ayala an even better place to live and vacation.
If you should encounter these people at work, give them a well-deserved thumbs up!
Our community neighbours; La Penita de Jaltemba and Rincon de Guayabitos have also been awarded 50,000 pesos each by the SEMARNAT program; and the beautiful beach town of Chacala just sixty minutes north of Jaltemba Bay has been awarded 49,000 pesos.
Truly, a wonderful program benefiting everyone in Los Ayala; and the community of Jaltemba Bay,and the state of Nayarit!
Fruit Vendors on Los Ayala Beach
We all love the fresh fruit sold from the vendors manning the fruit carts on Los Ayala beach. However, because of the litter and debris caused by the sale of the fresh fruit, and the costs and effort of keeping the beach clean and beautiful, new bylaws have been introduced in Los Ayala.
The new bylaw prohibit vendors from using carts to sell fruit directly on Los Ayala beach; in fact the new rule is applicable to all beaches in Compostela. SEMARNAT will no longer be issuing permits to vendors to sell fresh fruit from fruit carts, because of the resultant litter on the beach. If the vendors use carts to sell fruit on the beach, they will be subject to a hefty fine by PROFEPA. The fines will range from 5,000 - 45,000 pesos.
The talk in town on Saturday is that the fruit vendors will be protesting and blocking the entrance of Los Ayala, on Sunday, July 4, 2010 so that no one may enter or exit Los Ayala. It is said that the fruit and food vendors on Rincon de Guayabitos may also be protesting the new rule by blocking access to Guayabitos beach. On Sunday morning, trucks protesting the ruling on fruit carts on the beach were driving around Los Ayala, with loud speakers stating their case.
On Sunday, July 11, 2010 it was business as usual for the fruit vendors on Los Ayala beach. For more information, news and opinions news on this topic see Beach Vendors
Do You Use Well Water?
CONAGUA - "Comision National del Agua", is checking properties in Los Ayala for non-registered wells and fining property owners if their wells are not registered. This is because well water is derived from federal grounds, and the proprietors who have not registered their wells are using federal water without paying for it. For references sake, the funds home owners pay SIAPA are for above ground water.
