Los Ayala
Playa del Beso

"Cuate"
Usually translated as "buddy" or "pal" this term literally means "twin," suggesting that the relationship
between two men is a deeply emotional one, more on the order of the ancient Indian custom of
forming "blood-brother" ties than mere friendship.

Playa del Beso is beach is easily accessed by a short trail located at the south end of Los Ayala beach. The ten minute walk along a shaded trail offers beautiful views of the crystal clear, blue-green ocean waters and surrounding rich, green, tropical foliage. Armadillos, coatimundi and parrots are occasionally spotted in this area.

"Playa del Beso" which translates to "The Kissing Beach" is perfect for swimming. The beach is sandy, the waves are gentle, and the beach is generally secluded. (except for weekends and holidays)   A small restaurant is located on the beach, called "La Jungla" which serves refreshments and light meals.  Playa del Beso is perfect for picnics and a great spot for kayaking. During the rainy season join the locals for a refreshing dip in the seasonal fresh water stream that runs off the hillside directly onto the beach.

At very low tide it is possible to climb over the rocks to the neighbouring beach which is called Playa Freideritas. This particular beach is very secluded and it's likely a beach you can call your own for at least a day. The beach is a little rocky in spots, but the waters are clear and great spot for a refreshing dip. At low tide, you can access this beach from Playa del Beso by climbing over the rocks at south end of the beach.  Be sure to time your visit to return before the tides starts coming in. Alternatively, hire a panga boat to take you there.

Snorkeling in this area...  When the tide is high and the ocean is calm, really perfect conditions are needed; there is some decent snorkeling at the rocky outcropping  between Los Ayala and Play del Beso. The snorkeling is also pretty good along the rocky shoreline on the beach next to Playa del Beso (Playa Frideritas) and also at Playa del Torro (trail access is found on the Punta Raza trail). Only recommended for strong swimmers with extreme caution as when the the tide changes the waves here can be quite forceful.  Best to swim with a buddy, wear a life jacket and access by boat.

Today's Playa del Beso

The correct name for this beach is  actually "Playa Freideras."

The secluded sandy beach around the corner from the north end of Los Ayala beach is the original "Kissing Beach." When this beach was privatized, locals preferred the more romantic name and  started referring to Playa Fredieras as the Kissing Beach,  and the name stuck.
